Country Matters

KB: A few years back I left London where I'd worked for a large part of my time in journalism and broadcasting. The plan was to start a new life in the countryside and a new career as a famous author. Agents and publishers remained resolutely unmoved by this move, so I acquired a dog and part time work managing a community orchard and joined the Benenden Parish Council and other local bodies. I wrote about these experiences in columns for the Kent and Sussex Courier, the Times of Tunbridge Wells and the Hastings Independent for whom I’m currently Political Editor. The blog ‘Country Matters’ contains many of these articles. Meanwhile I completed a short ‘first person’ biography of a noted local rogue “The Smuggling Life of Gabriel Tomkins” and with a group of actors, tour pubs and clubs with a ‘café theatre’ version of the tale. In 2016 I embarked on a biography of John Collier of Hastings. The blog ‘Mr Hastings – Creating a Biography’ details the progress of this work. I welcome feedback on any of the blogs and would love further information anyone may have on John Collier or Gabriel Tomkins.
